Drone footage released by Spain’s Geological and Mining Institute on Sunday showed red-hot lava streams flowing from La Palma’s Cumbre Vieja volcano.
The video was released as the country’s airport authority, Aena, announced that volcanic dust was disrupting air travel to and from the island, which is part of Spain’s Canary Islands.
Aena said the airport remains open, but local airline Binter has been forced to cancel all of its flights. Nearly half of all flights into the island have also been cancelled, it said.
The president of the Canary Islands said Sunday that there is no immediate end in sight to the eruption that has caused chaos on La Palma since it began about a month ago.
