Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp hopes to convince the CAF to let their players leave for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations at a later date than planned.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to take place between 9 January 2022 and 6 February 2022 across five cities in Cameroon.
The tournament was originally scheduled to be played in June and July 2021 but the CAF announced on 15 January 2020 that due to unfavorable climatic conditions during this period, the tournament would be postponed.
Egypt were drawn in Group D alongside Nigeria, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau.

Multiple football stars will be participating in the tournament, including Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane who are major parts of Liverpool’s squad.
Due to Liverpool being affected by their players’ departure, Jurgen Klopp reportedly wants to delay their travel to a later date than the one decided.
While the tournament starts on January 9, FIFA rules state that qualifying clubs can ask their stars to begin international duty on December 27.
However, Liverpool are going to make an attempt to push the departure date after Leicester City and Chelsea clashes on the 28th of December and the 2nd of January respectively.
If the attempt is a success Salah and Mane will still have more than a week to prepare for their opening game in the upcoming 2022 AFCON.
