A Nigerian army general and three soldiers have been killed on Saturday during an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants in Maiduguri.
Army Spokesman, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the incident, saying a senior officer Brigadier General Dzarma Zirkusu and three other soldiers provided reinforcement against the ISWAP who unleashed terror on Askira of Maiduguri Saturday morning and unfortunately got killed in action.
Last month, the Nigeria army said it had killed the new ISWAP leader weeks after announcing the death of Abu Musab al-Barnawi, the group’s former leader.
