Drone footage showed red-hot lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano flowing towards the Atlantic Ocean under the scorched island of La Palma as the eruption entered its 80th day.
La Palma’s regional government said on Tuesday the surface covered by lava streams has an extension of 1,136 hectares and a perimeter of 55 km.
Authorities reported lava continues to flow although volcanic activity displays a descending trend with seismic movements on the decline. The volcano continues to expel a high level of toxic gas.
