Egypt national team duo Ahmed Sayed Zizo & Akram Tawfik have condemned some Egypt fans’ actions, supporting only their favorite club players.
During the second round fixture of the Africa Cup of Nations group stage, Egypt came on top against Guinea-Bissau with the result of 1-0, thanks to Mohamed Salah’s goal.
The Pharaohs now sit in second place in Group D with three points, behind Nigeria who have collected six points so far.
A win or a draw with Sudan will guarantee Egypt a Round of 16 spot, regardless of Nigeria vs Guinea-Bissau game final result.
Despite the win, Zizo and Akram Tawfik have both denounced some fans’ actions, supporting only their favorite club players, while criticizing the rest.
“Unfortunately, things have become worse, whether we win or lose, club bias affects some fans’ behaviour. You see them praising their favorite club’s players while criticizing their rivals even when they are a part of the national team,” Zizo said.
“Now you see Zamalek fans criticising Al Ahly players and Al Ahly fans criticising Zamalek players.
“I hope fans can understand the concept of supporting the team, it’s okay that you don’t like certain players, but show support for the team.”
Tawfik then added: “That is something that affects the players, to feel like they are being criticized just because they belong to a certain club.”
It’s worth noting that Akram Tawfik was ruled out of Africa Cup of Nations after Nigeria clash due to his long-term knee injury.
