Ukraine’s great exodus continued on Feb. 26 had thousands of fearful families desperately hoping to reach safety in nearby Poland as Russian forces pounded Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kyiv, with artillery and cruise missiles.
At the Ukrainian border crossing of Shehnyi, thousands of people joined a long line as they sought to leave their country in the face of a Russian invasion.
The queue was composed mainly of civilians fleeing the surging conflict carrying with them some food supplies, getaway bags, and, in many cases, a carrier for much-loved family pets.
As of Saturday morning, at least 198 Ukrainians, including three children, had been killed in the Russian invasion and 1,115 people were wounded, according to Ukraine’s Health Ministry.
