Ontario Premier Doug Ford said on Wednesday that the construction of Highway 413 would save commuters up to 30 minutes one way, while also generating 3,500 jobs during construction “and pump $350 million into the economy.”
Ford discussed the highway’s construction alongside Transport Minister Caroline Mulroney and Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy in Caledon Village, Ont.
On Monday, Ford also said his government was committed to fully funding the Bradford Bypass, a controversial highway project that’s been in the planning stages for decades, though it hasn’t yet been fully costed by his Progressive Conservative government.
The government earmarked $2.6 billion in its fall economic statement for highways and bridges this year, including committing to advance the Bradford Bypass.
Concerns have been raised about the environmental impact, as the last environmental assessments on the project were completed in the 1990s.
