The US State Department recently updated its list of the world’s worst religious freedom violators, controversially removing Nigeria from the annual list. The change was made the day before Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in the country from his just completed African tour. Senior Fellow at Open Doors USA and former US Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, Ambassador Sam Brownback, joins to share his reaction to Nigeria being removed from the list and whether we know the reasoning for that decision. Ambassador Brownback gives us an overview of what is happening in Nigeria as it relates to Christian persecution. While Nigeria was removed from the list, Russia was added. He tells us more about that and the concerns in that country. The ambassador discusses what else he finds noteworthy about the list of worst religious freedom offenders and what countries he is keeping an eye on. Ambassador Brownback explains how he would rate the Biden Administration so far on defending religious freedom as a human right and what more he would like to see from the US and international community as a whole.
