The Nigeria Football Federation relieved Gernot Rohr from his duties ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to take place between 9 January 2022 and 6 February 2022 across five cities in Cameroon.
Despite the tournament starting less than a month from now, Nigeria Football Association took the decision to replace their current manager Gernot Rohr.
Rohr’s dismissal came after five years spent with the Super Eagles, in which he led the team in 58 matches, winning 31, losing 14, and falling to a tie in 13.
Former Super Eagles captain and head coach Augustine Eguavoen will be replacing Rohr as an interim coach.
After the dismissal decision was made, the NFF released a statement to the press revealing Eguavoen to be the new Nigeria head coach.
“The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed Mr.Augustine Eguavoen, currently its technical director, as the technical adviser of the Super Eagles on an interim basis,”
“The relationship between the Nigeria Football Federation and Mr.Rohr has come to an end. We thank him for his services to the Super Eagles and Nigeria.
“We also want to thank the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports for their collaboration and guidance all through.”
