In continuation of the suit on an in-house Kano All Progressive Congress (APC) rift, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has on Friday declared as illegal, null and void, the local government congress held by Governor Ganduje’s faction of the party.
The presiding judge, Justice Hamza Muazu in his ruling upheld the local government congress of the Senator Ibrahim Shekarau faction.
The court had on November 30, declared the ward congresses held by the Abdullahi Ganduje faction of the party illegal.
Kano politics took a dramatic turn when some members of the APC led by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau accused Governor Ganduje and the former state chairman of the party, Abdullahi Abbas of sidelining them.
This led to parallel congresses: one by the Abdullahi Umar Ganduje faction which elected Abdullahi Abbas as its chairman. Then another by Shekarau’s faction whose members include Senator representing Kano North Senatorial District, Senator Barau Jibril, Member representing Dawakin Tofa and Rimingado Federal Constituency, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, member representing Karate and Rogo Federal Constituency, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi and a member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada elected Ahmadu Haruna Zago as Chairman.
A party member from the National headquarters, Sani Bello supervised the conduct of the congress in Janguza, Tofa Local Government Area of the state.
Since then, tensions have heightened even as the National body of the APC could not resolve the dispute.
