Egypt international and Konyaspor striker, Ahmed Hassan Kouka, gave his support to the national team after missing out on the AFCON squad.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to take place between 9 January 2022 and 6 February 2022 across five cities in Cameroon.
Egypt are starting their journey in Group D alongside Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, and neighbours Sudan and will face the Super Eagles in the opener.
With 10 days left before the kick-off of the tournament, head coach Carlos Queiroz announced his 25-man squad.
The squad witnessed many surprises as Turkish Super Lig duo Ahmed Hassan Kouka and Ahmed Yasser Rayan were both excluded.
The squad also saw the absence of multiple Egyptian Premier League stars, most notably, Al Ahly’s Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Zamalek’s Tarek Hamed.
Kouka became a regular for Egypt in 2015 and even played two of their four games in the 2019 AFCON.
The 28-year-old is having a slow season with Konyaspor, scoring just three goals and providing two assists in 18 appearances across all competitions, which may have caused his exclusion
Kouka commented on being left-out and wished his team the best during the tournament.
“Thank god for everything. All the best to the national team, and god willing you will return from Cameroon with the cup,” Kouka posted on his Twitter account.
