Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said during a COVID-19 update on Tuesday that his government continues to monitor the spread of the Omicron variant, but that additional health restrictions are a “last and limited resort.”
Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced during the same update that the current COVID-19 active case count sits at a record of over 34,000.
Hinshaw also announced that 12 people had died from COVID-19 since Dec. 29, including a child in the age range of five to nine-years-old with a complex medical condition.
There are currently 436 patients in Alberta hospitals with COVID-19, 61 patients are in the ICU.
