Turkish Super Lig outfit Hatayspor have completed the signing of Al Ahly and Egypt forward Mahmoud Kahraba on loan until the end of the season.
Kahraba has been struggling for playing time at Al Ahly after a fall-out with head coach Pitso Mosimane, which resulted in a one-month suspension as well as a heavy EGP 200,000 fine.
The 27-year-old failed to play a single in the league this season and his only game time came against Niger’s USGN in the Champions League as he scored once while assisting twice in a 7-1 aggregate victory.
Overall with Al Ahly, Kahraba scored 17 goals and provided nine assists in 62 games, winning two CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups, an Egyptian Premier League title, the Egypt Cup, and the bronze medal at the Club World Cup.
In search of more playing time, Kahraba signed a new deal with Ahly and decided to go out on a six-month loan at Turkish club Hatayspor, with the club having the option to make the deal permanently.
The Hatay-based club currently sit fifth on the league table with 32 points, just outside of the European qualification spots on goal difference.
Founded in 1967, the team achieved promotion to the Süper Lig for the first time in 2020 when they were crowned champions of the TFF First League, and their debut season in the top tier saw them finish in a remarkable sixth place, just four points short of a place in the Europa Conference League,
Kahraba will play alongside the likes of Mali international Adama Traoré, Moroccon duo Ayoub El Kaabi and goalkeeper Munir, ex-Man United and Stoke City forward Mame Diouf to name a few.
He will also become their first winter signing and their first-ever Egyptian in the history of the club.
However, it won’t be Kahraba’s first time outside of Egypt, having already represented Swiss clubs FC Luzern and Grasshoppers, CD Aves of Portugal, and Saudi giants Ittihad Jeddah.
Kahraba will also join a long list of Egyptians to have played in Turkey, with the current active players include Mostafa Mohamed, Ahmed Hassan Kouka, Ahmed Yasser Rayan, and Karim Hafez.
