Egypt national team manager, Carlos Queiroz, told his players to move past the disappointing Nigeria defeat and come back stronger to make the fans proud.
Egypt started their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Nigeria.
The Super Eagles were by far the more dangerous side for the entirety of the encounter and could’ve increased the gap if it wasn’t for Mohamed El-Shennawy’s heroic display.
In addition to the Egyptian players’ inability to compete with their Nigerian counterparts, Queiroz made some questionable tactical decisions that may have affected the team’s performance.
For instance, the Portuguese coach played the likes of Mostafa Mohamed, Mohamed Salah and Mahmoud Trezeguet out of their normal positions, which heavily reduced the team’s effectiveness going forward.
These inexplicable changes caused outrage among pundits and supporters alike, to the point where one fan had a heated argument with Queiroz after the game.

Egypt now have two must-win games remaining in the group stages against Guinea-Bissau and Sudan respectively in order for them to secure a spot in the round of 16.
Despite the upsetting result, Queiroz believes that this is a great opportunity for the team to show their personality and bounce back.
“We feel hurt and sad, no doubt about that because we always want to perform well and deliver happiness to our Fans, Friends, and Families. We are proud of our commitment and we want to make people proud of us,” Queiroz posted on his Twitter account.
“Tough moments show the really tough guys standing up together, more united and stronger. Tough moments show one team united and ready to fight harder, perform better and succeed always.
“Lads, lets move forward to our responsibility and major goals!”
Egypt’s will get the chance to redeem themselves next Saturday when they face Guinea-Bissau at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Gouara.
