Nigeria national team defender, Ola Aina, praised Mohamed Salah and the Egyptian national team after beating them in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Pharaohs couldn’t have asked for a worst start to their AFCON journey, after losing 1-0 to Nigeria in the opening group stage match.
It wasn’t as much the result as it was the team’s performance that shocked fans and pundits alike, as Egypt was outplayed for the entirety of the encounter.

One of the players who was unable to make any significant impact was Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, who didn’t threaten the Nigeria goalkeeper during the 90 minutes. However that may be because he played out of position as a striker instead of his normal position on the right wing.
Aina spoke to the media about facing Salah and praised the Egyptian national team as a whole.
“Mohamed Salah wasn’t really on my side today but sometimes we had some encounters and everyone knows he’s a world-class player, likewise the whole team is very good.”
Aina expressed his delight with getting the three points but said they need to shift their focus to their next game against Sudan.
“I feel the team is very happy, we are very happy to play against Egypt, they are a tough side, they have great players, and for us to get the first three points of this tournament is very good for us,” added the Torino man.
“We just take it game by game, we’ve got past this game now so we have to focus on the next game, we’re going into that game with the same concentration, the same determination as we did tonight,” Aina concluded.
