Many who are handicapped often conclude that they are unfortunate in life. They go through life as defeated folks, and they fail to achieve all the possibilities life has in stock for them. But the reality is that there is abundant of opportunities available to the average handicapped fellow. Whether the person is deaf, dumb, blind, paralyzed, etc, the opportunities are still available all the same.
Do you notice that the society often favor the handicapped? Visit the bus-stop, the rail-station, the hospital etc, and you will see special attention bestowed on the handicapped.
Take for example if two kids were to go to the street to sell wares (one normal and one handicapped), people will usually favor the handicapped seller above the former. So the handicapped should take advantage of their disadvantages. The world is designed to favor them.
I know of a musician in my country-Nigeria, no one knew him when he was a reporter in a Magazine publishing company. After he got involved in an accident, he lost the use of his limbs-he was confined to the wheel-chair. But, that was not the end of the story. He later discovered his talent as a musician. You know what?
Every other person that sings his kind of music before him was abandoned by the music fan. He became the delight of everyone overnight. His music is not more special than anyone else, but people were just thrilled by a handicapped that refuses to give up but sings beautiful music instead of dying in sorry and sadness because of the loss of his limbs.
The one major key needed by anyone to turn handicap to cash is DETERMINATION. We can see in history the example of men and women who were handicapped but turn the disadvantages to great success and honor.
Helen Keller was supposed to die in a world of silence. She became deaf and blind before she was two years old. But through the support of her parent and her own fervent determination she rose from her oppression to limelight. She traded her handicap for fame, International awards, and all round success. Her life influenced so many other handicapped and less privileged people.
Ludwig van Beethoven became deaf at the age of 28, but till his death he was a great Composer.
Stevie Wonder was a blind man. But he is not remembered for blindness today. With determination he was able to write his name in gold. Till the present day, the world is still thrilled by his music.
Determination is a great quality. Where talent and genius fail, determination usually succeeds.
The only sets of people who may be said to be doomed are the mentally handicapped. Any handicap of the part of the body should not be allowed to limit your potential. So go ahead and fulfill your destiny, and cash-in on your handicap!!!
