Former Liverpool and Portugal defender, Abel Xavier, says that there is no better person to take charge of the Egypt national team than Carlos Queiroz.
Queiroz has been under attack recently by many media personalities and fans, following the team’s horrible display in the opening game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations against Nigeria.
Despite a slight improvement in the second game against Guinea-Bissau, where they won 1-0, many fans are still dissatisfied with the coach’s decision making and the team’s overall performance, with some demanding his dismissal.

However, Xavier believes that Queiroz would highly benefit the Pharaohs if he stays with them for a while.
“The current football administration in Egypt is very competitive, as are the players of the current generation. Many of Egypt’s players are in big leagues, and this is of great importance,” Xavier told Mehwar TV.
“Carlos Queiroz is known worldwide and thanks to the great experiences he’s had with different countries he has worked in. He has a way of playing that takes time to get accustomed to.
“From the matches I watched for Egypt, including the team’s last match in the AFCON, Queiroz made some adjustments after the first defeat against Nigeria. We saw that he was thinking of the team’s form as a collective. The team improved and they were indeed organized.
“Queiroz is the right person, and Egypt will be a very competitive team under him and the team will grow,” he concluded.
Egypt, who currently sit second in Group D, will take on bottom-placed Sudan in their next match, and a draw would be enough for the Pharaohs to qualify for the round of 16, in case Guinea-Bissau don’t beat Nigeria.
