Al Ahly head coach, Pitso Mosimane, revealed that Arsenal’s legendary manager Arsene Wenger was very impressed with his star midfielder Aliou Dieng.
Dieng has become a fan favourite among Al Ahly supporters since joining the Reds in 2019.
The 24-year-old is one of the most physically dominant midfielder in the Egyptian Premier League, but it’s his technical and his shooting abilities that distinguish him from other midfielders in the continent.
In less than three years with the Red Devils, he racked up over 100 appearances and helped them win back to back CAF Champions League titles, the CAF Super Cup, the Egyptian Premier League, the Egypt Cup and two Club World Cup bronze medals.

During his guest appearance on the On The Whistle Podcast, Mosimane was asked by Daily Mirror Assistant Editor Darren Lewis which African-based players he thought were overlooked by European clubs.
The South African singled out Dieng as a player who deserves to play in the English Premier League, revealing that even Arsene Wenger was impressed with the former MC Alger man.
“Arsene Wenger asked me about him. He says you have a wonderful player, you’ve got a good player.
“So I look at Nakamba, the boy who’s playing in Aston Villa, from Zimbabwe, and I look at the boy playing for Leicester City as a six [Nigeria’s Wilfried Ndidi]. I also look at Partey who’s playing for Arsenal, I say ‘really guys is there really much of a difference?’
“And he’s playing in the national team of Mali and he’s playing for Al Ahly. He’s a two-time Champions League winner and won the bronze medal two times in the World Cup. And the CAF Super Cup twice, the league, the Egyptian Cup, I mean what else does he have to win? He’s got experience, and somebody has to open their eyes. Somebody has a player to get in Africa.
“He can play as a six and an eight and he fits in all the systems and all the modules. He’s fit, he’s strong, he’s young, he can press, he runs 90 minutes, he’s got all the attributes that are needed in the Premier League.
