President Samia Suluhu Hassan has told African journalists to write positive stories about the continent discouraging negative reports.
“We are the ones who provide such information without caring about our dignity, traditions and instinct whereas our continent is better than many others. We have all kinds of riches from nature, resources etc, write about those” President samia said.
She made the statement during the commemoration of the World Press Freedom Day on Tuesday which was continentally held in Arusha, Tanzania for the first time and participated with delegates from 54 countries.
Emphasizing on the matter, she warned Tanzanian journalists against following foreign cultures that do not comply with the country’s tradition, culture, values and norms adding that they are to be at the forefront of educating the community on how to keep their virtues.
“I, as president will stand here and say let’s protect our traditions and customs but I don’t have another time to go and talk about them and analyze them in details but you are the ones who are supposed to write about them, to do researches and see how our traditions and customs are deteriorating and how to protect them. If you borrow from there, you will have conflicts,” she stated.
