Prince Charles attended a reception in Ottawa honouring Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years of public service on Wednesday.
The reception took place at Rideau Hall where Governor-General Mary Simon gave a speech highlighting Canada’s journey to reconciliation with its Indigenous peoples and “acknowledging the harm done” amid ongoing discovery of unmarked graves at former residential schools.
Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, arrived in Canada on Tuesday, spending the day in Newfoundland and Labrador before flying to the national capital in the evening.
Earlier on Wednesday, they showed their support for the people of war-ravaged Ukraine by attending a candlelit prayer service at an Orthodox cathedral in Ottawa.
The church visit was among the couple’s stops on the second day of the royal Platinum Jubilee tour.
