Ukraine also hasn’t controlled Donbas for eight years. If Europe actually were invested in these areas remaining with Ukraine, they would have intervened sooner, but the last years show it’s simply not a priority.
Ukraine can’t win this war because Russia has nukes. Nobody wants to see this escalate to a point where that becomes a factor. If you nuke a city, it literally makes zero difference whether there’s 5 or 50 or 5000 tanks in it.
For now, Russia thankfully seems quite far from using nukes, so sending a few largely communist-era weapons that our army doesnt use anymore anyway was a nice enough gesture, but there’s not much Germany actually can do to help Ukraine actually win and even if we could, it probably wouldn’t be worth the risk of nuclear war.
That’s unfortunately the Realpolitik side of it
