Canadian Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino said Saturday that at least 76 bank accounts, or about $3.2 million, were frozen in connection with the ongoing demonstrations against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and health restrictions.
Mendicino made the comments at a media availability alongside President of the Queen’s Privy Council and Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair, Attorney General and Justice Minister David Lametti and other federal ministers.
The government also announced financial support for businesses in Ottawa that have been impacted by the demonstrations.
Helena Jaczek, the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, said small businesses in Ottawa are eligible to receive non-repayable support of up to $10,000.
