American singer and songwriter Billie Eilish has revealed the negative impact watching pornography had on her as a child.
Eilish while being interviewed recently disclosed that she started watching pornographic content when she was 11 years old, and added that it “destroyed my brain”.
She called it a “disgrace”, adding how devastating it was to be exposed to so much porn at a tender age.
“As a woman, I think porn is a disgrace. I used to watch a lot of porn, to be honest. I started watching porn when I was like 11.
“I think it really destroyed my brain and I feel incredibly devastated that I was exposed to so much porn”, she said.
19-year-old Eilish further admitted that after being introduced to it, she started seeing more and more graphic types of pornography, leading to her impression about sex and relationships getting twisted.
“It got to a point where I couldn’t watch anything else unless it was violent, I didn’t think it was attractive.
“I was a virgin. I had never done anything. And so, it led to problems … The first few times I had sex, I was not saying no to things that were not good. It was because I thought that’s what I was supposed to be attracted to.”
The singer said that watching abusive porn has made her a victim of night terrors and sleep paralysis.
“I’m so angry that porn is so loved. And I’m so angry at myself for thinking that it was okay.”
Speaking further, Eilish criticised the porn industry for its unrealistic depiction and expectations of women’s bodies.
